The first thing you can do is use positive language when you talk about anything dental related. This can help your child feel calm and relaxed when they sit in the dental chair. You can tell them how your dentist helped your smile when you had an appointment and now you can eat, talk, and laugh properly. There is no need to use negative language that will scare your child.
The second thing you can do is be there for your child during the appointment, but do not interject during the treatment. If you interject, it’s hard for our dental team to create a relationship with your child. It can also be confusing for your child if they hear multiple voices. It’s best to sit next to your child’s chair, hold their hand, and keep them calm and comfortable.
