This involves Dr. Michael O'Neill removing the entire tooth enamel layer to form an abutment from the healthy dentin and other internal structures of the tooth.
This post-shaped structure will eventually serve to anchor a crown made from a material like gold, porcelain, or a metallic alloy. Porcelain crowns are primarily called upon to restore a tooth in your smile. Crowns made from gold or base metal alloys are more durable, making them a good choice for molars.
The crown will need to be prepared at our off-site dental lab. When it’s ready, you will need to come back in to have it cemented in place. Once this is done, you can expect the newly restored tooth to last for many years ahead.
