GENERAL CARE AND CLEANING TIPS FOR TAKING CARE OF DENTURES

While the unit is made out of artificial materials that aren’t susceptible to tooth decay, it will still need to be included in your daily oral hygiene routine.

Many denture wearers find that denture adhesive helps secure the unit in place while preventing stray food particles from working their way between the base and the gums. If a few food particles do invade, you should thoroughly rinse them and any residual adhesive away. You can then dry the base of the dentures with a paper towel and reapply more denture adhesive to the clean surface.

You will also need to rinse away all residual denture adhesive, when you take your dentures out at the end of the day. This will provide you with a clean, smooth surface to re-apply the denture adhesive the next morning.

Then you should brush the dentures with soft bristled toothbrush and denture polish to remove and residual plaque and food particles. Once it is completely clean, you should soak your dentures overnight in water and store them in a safe place.

Many people with dentures like to also clean their tongue by brushing it or using a tongue scraper to remove bacteria and help stave off bad breath.
