What Is A Root Canal?

A root canal is a treatment that helps restore or save a tooth that has become inflamed or infected.

Inside the middle of your tooth, there is a soft tissue called pulp. The pulp contains nerves and blood vessels to help feed the tooth and help fight infections. A damaged tooth or deep tooth decay can lead to infection of the pulp, resulting in the need for a root canal.

During a root canal treatment, your dentist will numb the area before using dental tools to remove the nerve from inside the tooth. Your dentist will then fill and seal the tooth.

Our team may recommend a crown if necessary to help protect your tooth going forward

Signs You Might Need a Root Canal

Signs or symptoms you may experience if you’re suffering from infected pulp include:

  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Pain while chewing
  • Chipped or cracked tooth
  • Swollen or tender gums
  • Darkened gums

Get Back to Smiling

After your root canal, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure everything is healing correctly. In most cases, a crown is recommended afterward to protect the tooth and restore its strength. This will help you preserve your investment and avoid future issues. You’ll be back to chewing, biting, and smiling in no time.
